TI 1003: Table repair procedure.
IMPORTANT NOTES: If you are not using the
latest version of CIC (5.1.0.72 or greater) or have
not upgraded your Borland Database Engine (BDE) to
version 5.01, you should do so before running this
repair process. If you have repaired you tables
previously with an older repair utility using an
older version of the BDE, you should contact IC
Solutions technical support. Because of differences
in the repair process, IC Solutions will have to
rebuild your tables if you have repaired them with
an earlier version of the BDE. This is a one time
procedure, it is free as a one time procedure to
both customers with a support contract and those
utilizing pay per incident support or utilizing the
free email support. If you attempt to repair the
tables and you meet these criteria (you have rebuilt
the tables previously with an older repair utility
or have not upgraded your CIC software recently)
please skip step 11.
If you do not have the
new CICAdmin.exe installed on your computer
download the file now at
http://www.chambersoftware.com/files/CICADMIN.EXE
Run CICAdmin by
clicking Start | Programs | IC Solutions
| CIC Administration
CIC Admin opens
displaying a screen with 4 tabbed pages.
Starting on the page
"Access" click Check
for Users in CIC. This will tell you if there
are currently any users in CIC.
You now need to get any users in CIC to exit
and prevent them from accessing CIC while you
perform your repair chores. This is accomplished
one of three ways. Options 2 & 3 will only
work on CIC versions 5.1.0.72 or greater. You
can tell which version you are using by clicking
Help | About.
| |
- Option 1:
The first and simplest is to
call or email all the networked users and tell
them to exit CIC and not to enter CIC until you
give the go ahead. The next two choices are more
reliable, however, in order for these options to
work the CIC end users must be using version
5.0.1.72 or greater.
|
|
- Option 2:
Click the Stop CIC button;
this will prevent anyone from access CIC that is
not currently using the program, it will also
put an onscreen warning on everyone's screen
that is currently using CIC. This warning will
tell the user to exit CIC. When the user clicks
OK on the warning screen they have 2 minutes to
save their work and close the program before CIC
shuts itself down. This is a good method if all
the users are at their desks. If there are users
out of the office, the 2-minute grace period
before the automatic shutdown doesn’t
begin until they click OK on the warning
message. If they are out for several hours it
could be a long wait.
|
|
- Option 3:
The 3rd and final
option to get users out of CIC. Click on the
Kill CIC button; this
will prevent anyone from access CIC that is not
currently using the program, it will also put an
onscreen warning on everyone's screen that is
currently using CIC. This warning will tell the
user to exit CI. The users have 2 minutes from
the time the message is displayed to save their
work and close the program before CIC shuts
itself down. This means that everyone will be
out of CIC within 2 minutes.

The next step in the
process is to back-up your data.
Click on the Backup page. Click
on Membership Data, you will be
prompted for a file name for your backup. Make
sure that the name is unique, something like
PCOC071299memdat is good. The name
should identify the organization the date and
the type of data. This is important if you have
to send IC Solutions your data as we sometimes
receive data from more than one organization.
After you type in the name of the file click
Open. A message prompt will be
displayed saying that the "file
doesn’t exist would you like to create
it?" Click Yes. Watch the
backup carefully for errors. If you see errors
do not continue. It is imperative that you
back-up your data properly before continuing. If
there are any problems with your repair process
you can always send IC Solutions the backup file
for repair. We are able to repair seriously
damaged files in our office using advanced
tools. If you see an error it is probably due to
a user in CIC. The could have forgotten your
warning or they may an older version of CIC that
will not automatically warn the to shut down as
in options 2 & 3 above. When the membership
data is backed up successfully continue to step
6.
Click on the
Repair page. Click on
Prepare Tables. If you receive
a prompt to run Stop or Kill CIC, from the
Access page click Stop
CIC.
Click on Batch
Repair.
This opens the Batch
Repair Utility. Pull down the Batch
Database Combobox and select
CICDATA.
Click Verify
and Rebuild. This will cycle through
all the data tables and verify their
structure and rebuild them as necessary. The
bottom of the batch Verify utility contains a
log of all repair activity. You can see all the
tables and their repair status. If there are
errors they will be reported with a number from
1 to 5 with 5 being the most severe. If you have
tables with error levels of 4 or greater chances
are that you will have to send your data to IC
Solutions for repair. You can click View
Error Table button to see all of the
errors reported. If you get a message saying
that "Can’t find the error
table" or something similar, this means
that you have no table errors. Once the rebuold
process is over close the batch repair utility
and return to CICAdmin. (If you can’t find
it look it on the taskbar)
In CICAdmin click on
Restore Tables button.
IMPORTANT READ
NOTES at top of document before
completing this step. Click on the
Cleanup Old Repaired Tables
button.
Click on the
"Access" Page in
CICAdmin. Click on Enable CIC.
Try to open CIC. You
should be all set. If you continue to have table
corruption errors contact CIC technical support
at support@chambersoftware.com. If you get multiple netfile in use
errors refer to Technical Document TI0002 at
http://www.chambersoftware.com/support/ti_1002.html
